Dropped my tranny, bellhousing, clutch and flywheel today
« on: October 24, 2014, 07:12:56 PM »
I am in need of a few parts. I will PAY for theses items if they are not easily sourced but someone is willing to sell. It looks as though I will need the worn out bushings on the shift rod. I could use a new rubber shift boot for a non-console car, but I know these are next to impossible to procure. I have posted a few pics in hopes that someone will recognize some parts I may need. Don't be shy, help me spend my money. I only want to do this once.

I have a source for the original 11in. clutch and pressure plate. Don't know if that same source will have a throw-out bearing. Also need a tranny mount. The trans is the numbers matching trans and I'd like to keep all of the parts I purchase NOS, good used or exact reproductions. Help please.

Paints, is it safe to say Bill Hirsch will have all of the paints needed to redo this correctly? I plan on having the shift linkage powder coated the grey phosphate color.

don't know if it will help or not, but the last time I replaced my clutch & press. plate, I used a 67 vet. 427-435 hp unit. this was back in the 70's & I got it for a hefty price of $50.00. Never had a slipping problem, the old leg shore got a workout though!

The boot shown in the pic is reproduced by the Buick Farm.
The far left of the top photo where the nut is shown; this should be a thick felt washer, not rubber as shown. I have these. Send me a pm for info.
A trans mount is the same as almost any mid-late 60s GM car w/manual trans. I went to a local O'Reilly's and picked one up.

If you need the upper z-bar bushings, Jan (GSSizzler) repo'd them.

Upper shift boot, non-console....  The repo Olds/later GS boot is avail from Fusick. It's a similar style but bigger than the early 65-66 style. I have one but don't like it as it just looks too big and goofy.
The console lower boot is still available. Shared by Chevelle, it's about $30. This one has an exposed retainer ring.
I have some pics of the original and lower boot here:
http://65gs.com/board/index.php?topic=200.msg1377#msg1377

Rear trans mount... I've found the new ones are taller than the originals. I'll check my stock and post some measurements.

Upper z-bar-to- clutch pedal rod bushing:
This is a rubber bushing with metal sleeve. The Corvette rear sway-bar link bushing is very close. May have to grind the end to make it a bit shorter. Avail from Mike Garrison (on V8 Buick) or most vette suppliers:

I'm glad the Nats inspired you, looking forward to seeing you and your GS at next years Nats. Hopefully we can get some of the board members here to get there also for the 50th anniversary of the 65 GS. It was nice to meet you and put a face with your name.

The throw out bearing is still available. Mine was a National 1505. Remember they are pressed into the retainer.

Loren, Starc was at the GSCA Nationals in Bowling Green, KY not the BCA Nationals. He has a good point about attending that show in 2015.

Did the GSCA set a official date for next year already?
