Hi, my name is Dan Harper. I'm new to this site and I figure I'd show some pics of my 66 gs's and my dads 65gs's. I've been around buicks my whole life. My grandpa was a buick dealership mechanic threw the 60-70's and has had buicks. My dad has always had buicks gs's when I was growing up. And when I was 12 years old he helped me buy and fix up a numbers matching 66gs for my first car. Witch I still have today and will never get rid of her. I've had her since 93. Recently I picked up low mile 66gs convert. My dream car. I had to keep up with my old man. Haha. I'll throw in a pic of my 66 special too.

Welcome Dan. Your father and you have very good taste in cars. Of course we are rather partial. Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks guys. I love the old nailhead gs's. They may not be the fastest of the gs's.  But I'm partial to the 65-66. In fact my 66 gs hardtop has many trips down the strip. And she survived high school. Lol. She ran a best of 13.41 at 101.3. I won the high school championship at Bremerton raceway in 99.

That's crazy we ran such close times.  That was with 235/60/15 street tires and 3.42 gears. I have st400 with the smaller converter out of my st300. The engine is stock bore with a old Kenney bell cam, headers and quadrajet intake with a 800 cam quadrajet.

I think my friend probably holds the record for "Nail" powered cars. 1st. time I drove it I went a 10.8ET @ 125MPH. 3500lbs. with me driving, no traction & a 4 way to boot!!!!! Another friend's '51 Henry J has run a best so far of an 11.01. We are looking for the 10's this year hopefully.

Dan, that's a great running car! Most stock-ish GS's are in the mid 14's. I've seen very few running 13's.
My blue '66 has a little more work.... a 425 with a big Isky cam, headers, '66 Q-jet, ST400 trans with the smaller GS converter, and a 4.11 rear. I actually built this engine when I was a teenager a few decades ago, and it's still running strong! Biggest mistake I made was using the thick head gaskets, so my CR is likely near 9:1..... a poor match for the big cam. Bet I could break into the 12's with some changes.

Awesome gs Walt. I bet your car would deffinitly break into the 12. Mine was originally astro blue also. Eventually I'm gonna put her back to it. My dad helped me spray her back  in my junior year of high school. That was in 96. I'm more into making her look stock now and haul butt. She's got bout 60,000 thousand on the original engine since my grandpa helped me build it. She's getting alittle tired from all the abuse. I have a 425 and 66 t10 that's gonna go into her in the next few years. Then I can save the number matching stuff. I really want make her a stick car. I'll probally do a hydrolic clutch though. Finding all that 4spd linkage would be like winning the lotto.

Dan
I take it that the 65 is dark Aqua teal? If so it is the first one I've seen. The 65 Ht. I bought from MrT was orig. dark Aqua with a white painted top. Was going to keep it Sierra Mist, but now may go back to stock color with a white vinyl top.
Great looking car's.

Thanks al, yep my dads 65 hardtop is dark aqua teal. Code L. It's a freamont built car that was sold out of bute Montana. It still had the chrome dealer plate on the deck lid. When my dad had found her she had been sitting since the mid 70's in a carport. There was hardly any rust in the car. Just the trunk floor had rust. And that was from a bag of fertilizer that was left in the trunk and it had even ate threw the gas tank. The car had white interior, console with factory tach, manual steering and manual brakes. She was a very low optioned car. I've only seen one other dark teal aqua car and it was a 65 Gs post car that used to be around my area. But I havnt seen that car since the early 90s.
