FNG from Texas
« on: July 02, 2013, 04:04:31 PM »
Hello all,

Walt, wkillgs, told me I should stop on by so I am taking him up on it. I have been a big Buick fan since I saw my Uncle Don's '66 Skylark GS back in 2000. Up until that point I was like every other bone head kid born in the early 80's. I thought Buicks were old man 4 door sedans that couldn't turn the tires over to save it's life. But after seeing the Uncle's 66 GS for the first time, it was love at first sight. I have had my mind set on getting one ever since.

Well now many years later I was finally able to do it. A few weeks ago I bought my very own '66 Skylark GS. Numbers Matching California car. I believe the car spent most if not all of its life there. Was built in Freemont and was last housed about 45 miles East of Los Angeles. I found it on the net, flew out to CA to see it and sign the papers, then had it trucked home. It's definitely a project, but its going to be a fun one. Lots of other peoples doings to fix, but that's all part of the game. Car was originally Astro Blue, but sometime in the past got one of those scratch and spray black paint jobs that is now flaking off. The car is pretty loaded with options. Was originally a bench seat car, but has been upgraded to buckets. It's is an all blue interior. It has A/C, PS, PB, Power Windows, Tilt Wheel, and Remote Drivers Mirror.

Here are a few pictures of when I went to see it in California.

This past weekend the Uncle and I put a new suspension underneath it. Got rid of the worn out raked look. Love the stock stance much better. And don't worry, the wheels are temporary. I am going back to road wheels. I found that two of mine were cracked on one of the spokes, and the tires were trying to blow out on me. I will be putting a set of Silvertown Redline Radials on it with a set of road wheels as soon as I am able to find one more "WO" coded 14x6 5x4.75 wheel.

Hey Johnny, great to see you signed up!
To fill you guys in, Johnny's uncle Don has a '66 GS that raced at the GS Nats in the 1990's. It's a beautifully done car that has a stock looking exterior and runs 11's in the 1/4 mile!  :rocker: I raced mine back then too but was considerably slower.

Funny that you mention the Buicks being old guy's cars.... I used to hear that when I was in my 20's. Now I'm 50 and perhaps that old statement is becoming true?? But perhaps a more important lesson is that it shows you don't have to act old when you grow up!

Good luck with the car. Looks like you found a nice solid example.

BTW, I didn't have any luck moving your pictures to the post. If you have them stored on your computer, you can use the 'Additional Options' option below the text block to upload them.
