Cloth Bucket seats and Rear seat Post car
« on: April 03, 2013, 11:17:49 AM »
Hi all,

I am looking for a good place to get seats done at in eastern MI, I have a post car and was wondering who makes ones for this car, as I have looked at several sites and did not see a listing for the rear seat, I want to replace all the padding so is there a better supplier to get them from?

Also was considering having my seats done in cloth like my original bench seat was, I know I have seen at least one ratty cloth factory buckets, does anyone have any pictures of one they could share and has anyone else done this?

Regards,

Jim

Jim,

Legendary makes the correct seat covers for both the front and back seats of post cars. Just tell them you have a sedan.
Here's a picture of buckets with cloth inserts.

Dan,

I will have to check with them, I attached a Picture of a 64 that was on Evil-Bay a few years ago, this matches the design on my 65 Special, wonder if it was correct or not as design does not show in the 64 Brochure

I was thinking the cloth would in the light color areas of a vinyl post seats (2 tone ones), but Brian had checked his literature and did not see anything listing 65 buckets being available in cloth

well if anyone has any pictures as I may have some made up and would like them to resemble something the factory would have done even if they never did

Jim

Jim,

Here are a couple of pages from the 1965 Dealership Color Trim Catalog. The catalog does not show that bucket seats were available in the Special model. But that does not mean that someone could not get what they wanted from the dealership. The first photo shows a Special interior that was available in the sedan and 2 door post cars. The second photo is of the fabric color that I believe you have in your post Special. The top portion of the seat is silver and black vinyl while the seating area is silver woven cloth. Hope this helps.

Jim,

Out of curiosity, what is the interior trim code on the firewall trim tag? Does it indicate silver bucket seats?

John,

Do you have the same sheets for the Skylarks and could you post that?

I attached my trim tag (101) and pictures of my original interior, along with a seat from a 65 Skylark 4 door that is Vinyl/Cloth, note the patterns are different between the 2 my original does not have buttons and the vinyl actually goes on top of the seat vs the 4 door seat which is cloth on top both are Skylarks and 1965 though my car is a early car (Nov-64) does that make a difference also the 4 door was from Flint and mine is from Fremont?

I installed some GS buckets in the car which are the darker blue, which I want to do the interior in both light and dark Vinyl or Vinyl/Cloth as I know I cant find door panels and I like the contrast.

Thanks again for any help, and if anyone has a good place that might be able to do a custom set depending on the price

Regards,

Jim

Jim,

Legendary seat covers are $365 for the fronts, $212 for the rear and front seat foam is $232 a set. They run sales with 20% off on a somewhat regular basis. This is just like the pattern that is the red car - no buttons, etc - and comes in a two tone light blue/dark blue. Understand you may not like the price.

Jim,

Your trim tag indicates that your car came with Blue interior bench seat. The exterior color would be Silver Cloud top and bottom. (the "A" appears only on Fremont built cars and we think indicates the wheel color Argent silver) Here's the pages for Special Deluxe 4-door sedan.

Jim,

Here's the pages for a Skylark 4 door Sport coupe. It appears that the difference in the 101 blue interior and the 131 blue "sport" interior is the buttons and the cloth covers the entire seat and seat back.

I think that it's amazing how many different colors and different styles of interiors were available. Since the 1965 models are almost 50 years old, a lot of changes by a number of different owners could have taken place. Good luck with getting the interior the way you'd like to see it.

John,

Thanks for the info, still not sure what direction I will go as I know I can get vinyl from legendary but may see what a upholstery shop might be able to do

One question on the Skylark Coupe page,  what does it say about the lap belts as can't make it out in the scans

Thanks again

Jim,

Are you clicking on the photo for an enlarged view? It says:
Front Seat Belts *
* A delete option at reduced cost.

Most upholstery shops can come close to the original fabrics.  Good luck.

John,

Thanks again for posting this info, the one I was trying to read the bottom was fuzzy, I always wondered why my car only has front belts, interesting story last year we took my 6 year old granddaughter to a local show and went to put the booster in and wow not belts in the rear, so I ended up calling the state police to see if it was OK to let her ride in front, they had to call me back and yep let her ride in the front. So she got to help me shift the car, she had a blast now she wants to go "100 fast" all the time though we only tell her she missed it when she falls asleep ha-ha

Again thanks,

Jim
