gs axles

Are the gs axles only larger at the bearing end or are they a larger diameter the whole length with a larger diameter spline going into the differential? Just curious, debating about putting a standard skylark rearend under my car to get rid of the 68 chevelle that's under it now.

Bob,

The Skylark & GS axles are the same. The bearings are larger, and I believe the ends in the GS/Sportwagon axle tubes are slightly larger to fit the bearing.

Right, you can see where the ends of the axle tubes flare out to a larger diameter to fit the larger wheel bearing.
The 66 GS axles have a larger shaft diameter than the 65 GS and used a different 66-68 bearing.

So I should be able to put any 65 or 66 skylark rearend under it without any trouble right. Just a street car not gonna be racing it. Would like to have it all Buick. Chevy in a Buick is just sacreligious. Not sure I spelled that right. Anyhow you get what I mean. Thanks guys.
