At a local car show I was told that my 65 hardtop did not have brake lights on the left side. I checked the bulbs, all good. I had tail light and turn signals, so I figured the ground was good. Talked to a friend who use to own a repair shop. He told me that the problem was the turn signal switch. The power to the brake lights comes from the brake light switch, through the turn signal switch to the brake lights. Replaced the switch. Problem fixed. The nice thing is that the car has tilt wheel, did not have to pull the steering wheel.
