I've finally gotten the correct carbs mounted on the engine and they make it run great! On my engine, however, the coil is mounted right below the throttle linkage next to the distributor and it appears the linkage could contact one of the posts on the coil through its travel. I've been looking at gallery pictures of engine bays and I've seen everything from this same location, to somewhere on the left bank of the engine to on the firewall. Where is the correct location for the coil????
Perhaps there is no truly correct location for the GS. If not, where was it placed on the factory Rivs or Wildcats with dual quads?

That is where it goes. Turn the coil sideways so one terminal is to the rear of the car, and the other is to the front, and that will keep the throttle linkage out of the way. I also put a 90 deg. boot on the coil wire at the coil to get it away from the throttle linkage. You can see it in this old pic before I took the car apart to restore it. I also put a slight offset in the throttle arm on the firewall--bent it towards the drivers side at the bottom, then bent the end back straight at the top. Gets the linkage away from the coil. I only offset it about 3/4"

Thanks Brian. My throttle linkage rod has an offset in it and I was able to reorient it so that it's alot farther away from the coil terminal. Now rotating the coil did not occur to me (DUH!). I'll make that change as well.

I think you are right Chuck, as to no correct location on the Skylark.
As the dual quads were not a factory option on the GS, it was a locate to suit and clear every thing.
