I need to transport a car from Ohio to Lakeport, CA (or Williams) any recommendations or cautions on transport companies?

Transport companies want two way hauls. Finding a CA hauler that is taking a car to the Midwest may be your best bet to get your car back economically.

A hauler I have used is SMI Transport out of Michigan. smitransport.com or 888-333-1941. Very professional small business guy.
