What is the correct color for the 4 speed bell housing, engine color or cast gray. What is the correct color for the small inspection cover for the 4 speed, black and what black or steel gray? Thanks Bill.

Hi Bill,
Bellhousing is engine color. Inspection cover is black.

Mark, thanks for the quick response, I am starting a driver quality resto on my 66 Skylark GS 4 speed and need to repaint the motor. Two other small things, the dist hold down, should it be engine color or what color. The two gas line holders on the pan what color. Thanks Bill.

Hey Bill,
The two fuel line brackets should be engine color. The distrib. hold down is some type of dark plating - I had mine done in black zinc. For a driver, semi gloss black or a dark gray should work out fine.
Glad I could help!

The 3 bellhousings I've had were all unpainted. 2 cars were unrestored at the time, and the third was a from a 4 speed setup I bought.
I thought my dist holddowns were engine color on my '66's.

And I'm just going by a Fremont 65 - appears 66 is different...thanks Walt!

Thanks everyone, I guess I would have thought 65/6 would have been the same? I can look at my 65 to see how the dist hold down was painted. My 66 had a front stub painting about 12 years ago and the motor was gone through and painted and the bell housing was painted red engine color. Looking at pictures here I seen 65 both ways. Thanks Bill.
