Title: URGENT - Bucket Seat Foam Info Needed
Post by: Mark Ascher on July 20, 2014, 05:16:05 PM
Looking for info on where to get the best, or I should say, best fitting bucket seat foam.
I bought the really expensive set from Legendary I believe, and it appears these are not even close to a fit.

Need some help quick, these need to be on their way to Loren tomorrow.
THANKS!

Mark

American Cushion Industries (ACI) are supposedly the best. Did they send you the right ones? 64 is different than 65 which is different than 66-up.
I would think Legendary and Ames would be the most knowledgeable sellers out there.

Hi Walt,

I got the ACI foam from Legendary for 65. They are not right. Loren just ordered these;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-1965-GM-A-Body-Seat-Foam-Set-/190734147759?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1965 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-1965-GM-A-Body-Seat-Foam-Set-/190734147759?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1965)|Make%3ABuick|Model%3ASkylark&hash=item2c68a420af&vxp=mtr

I hope they are it...
The GTO foam is supposed to be different that Buick, and maybe the other a-bodies. I didn't check the Fusick catalog.

Hey all,

I did my post car with Legendary and seems to fit fine other than begin nch or so taller in the seat, but i also replaced my springs as well

I had someone else install them but he didn't report any issues.

Good luck I know installing the covers is trick.

Regards,

I used the "good ones" from Legendary. with new springs they are too think about an inch as previousouly stated.  I did them myself and they were a pain to get on.  They were thick enough I used wire to pull the pleats down into the foam to get them atached.  I plan on taking them apart to remove some of the foam from the underside of the cushion as my head is to close to the roof and its a tight fit under the column.

I just had my front seats done. The guy that did them reused the original seatback foam and re enforced the bottom springs with a thick wire. He used the Legendary "good" bottoms and they turned out great. He was a big believer in using as much of the original stuff as possible to get the correct look. I love them.

I also like to reuse as much original as possible.
But when the foam is rock hard and crumbles , no way.  Also I prefer to install one  new layer of cotton batting. It helps smooth the final cover out better.
