Title: Newbie Here From Ohio
Post by: Rollaround on July 08, 2014, 08:07:42 AM
After a long search I finally have a GS, been looking for a couple years,  I have a 65 Special vert but always wanted a GS.  I was referred to this site by the previous owner as well as other GS owners.
It is a driver but sound just needs some love,  I have plans that include a body off in the winter of 2015, I will be looking for parts for the next year prior to starting the refit, my list is growing.
Below is a pix of the trim tag,  I understand some of it but not all, please feel free to educate me.
Let me ask in advance,  forgive me if I ask questions that have been asked a thousand times before.
I am a retired guy and just moved to NW Ohio.

Kevin,

Welcome. That is a lovely car. 1965 A/C convertibles are rather rare. Believe the trim tag decodes as:
06A - built the first week of June
KAN - in Kansas City plant
157 - red bucket seat interior
R - 1 - red exterior with white top
E - tinted windows
2K - A/C
2X - ST300 automatic
2G - console for automatic
2P - backup lights
4S - Gran Sport option
5K - door edge guards
5W - front seat belts with retractors
Glad to have you on board.

Feel free to ask questions. It's a good group of people here and I too am still learning.

Kevin

Welcome to the site.

I'm Glad to see you make it in.

Nice pictures

You will have to keep the pictures and questions coming as your project progresses.

Let us know if you need anything. There is a lot of knowledgable help around here.

You have an interesting setup for your garage door rails.

Unless its an opticle illusion it looks like you get a lot of ceiling height.

Welcome from Washington state! Very nice 65 gs convert and special . And by the way those garage door rail are awesome. I want to do that with one of my doors, so I can gain more clearance for a lift.

Welcome
glad to see that you joined the site. I told you that there is a great deal of knowledge on 65gs's out there. We talked about the vin code and I see that it didn't take long to get the information. By the way, I did get those manifolds.
Talk to you next week. Amvets on Monday night.

Thanks for the warm welcome to a fine sight guys.   Dan thanks for decoding the cowl tag so quickly and BobbyBuick if you have parts we will be talking for sure.
Milton the car left your house on Friday and arrived here late Saturday in fine shape. Glenn I look forward to seeing you Monday night; I have discovered Amvets has the best BLT in town.
About the garage doors, we are building an addition to the house that includes a new garage. The ceiling is vaulted to allow for positioning a four post lift anywhere in the garage. It?s under construction now and I am doing the interior work, which should consume my time through next spring.
The current plan is to start the GS restoration in the winter of 2014. I?ll be gathering parts until then so the big things are ready when I start.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Kevin,

Keep in mind that 2015 is the 50th anniversary year for the Gran Sports and we will be holding a reunion some time next year.

That?s it Dan heap the pressure on the new guy right away.  Well that is something to consider, I would not want to delay the resto but I would hate to take the car to a 50th birthday party in a basket.

Any idea when and where the event might be?

LOL That's my job here. Really not sure when or where the 50th is going to be. There was some talk about BPG in Ohio in August. Or it could be at the BCA Nationals in Springfield, MO in June. In either case you can always show up without a car and just enjoy the cars.
