Title: Need Rear Seat Side Panel Advice
Post by: gearhead46 on April 20, 2014, 08:22:49 PM
I am redoing the interior in my 65GS Sport Coupe. One thing that I am missing is the panel that goes along the side of the rear seat between the upper seat back and the side panel.  Since it is missing entirely, I am not sure what it is supposed to look like.

I called Legendary Interiors and they didn't know what I was talking about. I went to a car show today and looked at other similar A Body GM cars and found the each division appears to have their own unique style and design for this piece.

Can somebody out there give me advice as to what to do?  Is this a  piece that I will have to make, and, if so, is it make from metal or cardboard and screwed in place.  I looked at an Olds 442 and it appears that this is a plastic piece that is not upholstered. Not sure, however, if this is similar to the Buick.

Any advice or directions as to where I can find this piece, would be very much appreciated.  My interior is Frost White, but I'm sure I could paint a part that I would find should it not be white.

Well professor Gearhead. I see the picture Dwaine has posted. He shows the armrest metal extension and side panel. Which part are you missing. I might have something here.

I have the side panel, it is that little rectangular piece that sits on a backward angle that I am missing.  From the picture that Welder posted, it looks to be a metal base with upholstery over the top of it. It looks to be about 3 inches wide and about 15 inches long.

If need be, I suppose I could make this piece, but I don't know just how it attaches to the side panel and the arm rest piece, nor do I know the exact dimensions of it.  If you have these pieces, or just one of them, I sure could use it.

Thank you for your help,

Ted

Ted,
Is your car a hardtop or a post? Model #?
If it is a post body which Buick called a ,thin pillar coupe, that metal filler is not used. Also the arm rest is isn't like the one pictured in Welder's pic.

Ted - I have a set from a donor car that I will part with (ex the ashtrays) although they may be a little rusty. Let me know.

Ok, but it is only the rectangular piece that I need.  I have the arm rest where the ashtrays fit.  If you only want to sell the units together, that is ok with me.

Send me a note to gearhead46@centurytel.net and we'll work out details.

Ted. I believe you mean the vertical piece that buts against the end of rear seat back. It`s made of steal. Should be easy to find. I checked my parts manual but couldn`t find any info. Don`t even know the correct name. I would call it a filler panel. I`m guessing 64-67 Skylark 2dr ht. Check out v8buick.com if you cannot find a pair on this site.

Ted - Ok, I did not read the post correctly, but think I have those as well. They are blue and will probably be a little rusty. I will send you a pic.
